“It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me” (Gal 2:20)
This is such a simple phrase, but it has great meaning! This brings us to ask ourselves: until what point does Christ live in us? To say that Christ lives in us is like saying that in our thoughts, our behaviors, and our own will, we try to be conformed to what Christ thought and did. As one of our brothers would say: it is not enough to only frequently receive the Sacraments to say that one is an imitator of Christ, but one must then strive to live them with his own life!
Let’s compare our life with some aspects of the life of Jesus:
Jesus would often retreat and pray. What about us? Do we spend time in prayer every day? Can we “keep watch for just an hour with Him?” (cf. Matt 26:40)
Jesus walked the streets to announce the Good News. How much do we try to evangelize?
Jesus came to do the Father’s will, not His own (cf. John 6:30), even to the point of dying on a cross. What about us? Are we putting the will of God above every other thing in our life, even if this should lead us, for example, to give up our own life?
Jesus felt compassion when He looked at souls who were like sheep without a shepherd (Matt. 9:36). What about us? How do we feel when we see a brother or sister far from the Faith? Do we try to help them, or do we leave them to fall away as if it were nothing?
How willing are we to do what Jesus did? 30%, 60% or 100%? (cf. Mark 48)
