MEDITATION: Keep watch and pray

In this time of Advent, we are invited to keep watch in awaiting the coming of the Lord. But in what way should we prepare ourselves to truly be ready for such an event? Regarding this, here is a luminous meditation from Fr. Volantino:

“Lord, give us the grace to ‘Get up, keep watch, and pray’ so to obtain above all that light that helps us understand your Will and the strength to put it into practice, because this is our joy, given that it is written: ‘In your will is my joy!’ (Ps 119:16)

Therefore, Lord – if we want to flee from ‘anguish and eternal sadness’ – help us to embrace your will with our whole heart so that, besides demonstrating to you that we love you (that is, in deed and in truth), we will be happy and joyful now and forever – given that it is written: ‘Happiness and grace will be with me all the days of my life.’ (Ps 23:6)

Yes Lord, it is just as you and the Apostle explain to us: ‘Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice! Your kindness should be known to all. The Lord is near. Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.’ (Phil 4:4-7)

Therefore, Lord, if we want to flee from anguish and eternal sadness, help us to embrace your will with our whole heart, repeatedly saying ‘Yes!’ Let your will be done in deed and in truth! Amen!”
